Annabelle Prestage of Walden, NY, a Homemaker, and a longtime resident of the area passed away, Tuesday October 11, 2016, in Newburgh.  She was 97.

The daughter of the late John and Anna Markstein Hill, she was born August 22, 1919 in Keansburg, NJ. She was the widow of Frank Prestage.

Annabelle grew up on the Jersey shore and loved the beach. As a young woman, she enjoyed dancing on Saturday nights with a group of friends. She worked in a factory before getting married, and once her husband passed away, she went to work for Grants, where she worked in the fabric and children’s departments. When her daughter Patricia needed help raising her four children, Annabelle moved into Patricia’s home and became a daily part of Kim, Ed, Jeff and Tony’s lives. She was rarely called Annabelle anymore, being known as “Nanny” to nearly everyone. Nanny enjoyed gardening and was able to make anything grow. She loved to sew and knit, and in fact made most of the dresses that her great granddaughters wore. She made dolls that she sold in a local store and for individual people upon request. Nanny enjoyed needlepoint, and even up until a couple of years ago she would make cross-stitch samplers to give to others. She loved to shop, and we all marveled at how, up until about the age of 92, she could spend an entire day at the mall or store. Nanny was particularly fond of her grandson Jeff, who was dedicated to taking care of Nanny and would visit her daily. While she enjoyed visits from Kim and her great grandchildren, her most recent source of joy was found in her great-great-grandson AJ, who was always able to make her smile.

Brother, Charles Hill and his wife Eileen of Greer, SC, Son Frank Prestage and his wife Judith of Canandaigua, NY, Former son-in-law Al Pontecorvo and his wife Terri of Milford, PA; Grandchildren: Jeff Terranova of Walden, Kim Vandermark and her husband Jason of Rock Tavern, NY, Ed Terranova and his wife Jeanne of Rosedale, CA, Tony Pontecorvo of Phoenix, AZ, Gary Prestage and his wife Roisin of Lansdale, PA, Christine Longfield and her husband Eric of Brooklyn, NY, Kevin Prestage and his wife Amanda of Richmond, VA; Great-grandchildren: Jasen Webb and his wife Tatyana, Chris Lounsbury, Kathryn Lounsbury, Jessica Lounsbury, Dylan Prestage, Sean Prestage, Harris Longfield and Beckett Longfield; Great-great grandchild, AJ Mitchell

A memorial gathering will take place on October 22, 2016 from 2:30-4:30 pm at The Cedars, 55 Main St., Walden, NY 12586.
