Welcome to the memorial page for

Carol A. (VanWyck) Moran

May 12, 1933 ~ November 8, 2015 (age 82) 82 Years Old

Carol Ann Moran, 82, a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother died peacefully at Saint Lukes surrounded by all of her children. She was a long time resident of Walden, NY, living on High Meadows Drive in the Town of Montgomery. She was the widow of her beloved husband, Dr. William Moran, who passed away in 2012 after enjoying 57 years of marriage.

Carol was born and raised in Nyack, NY as the youngest of four children of Bucky and Ruth VanWyck. She graduated from Nyack High School as an accomplished student athlete, attended Cortland University and earned a bachelor’s degree before becoming a teacher in Suffern, NY. It was at Suffern early in her career that she met and fell in love with Dr. Bill Moran. Together they raised four children, and at the time of her passing treasured eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

She was an amazing woman, passing away as she lived, with every ounce of her being, never concerned for herself, only worried about others. She was always there for her husband and kids in good times and hard. Her incredible compassion for those less fortunate and born with disadvantage, was a hallmark of her life. A long time special education teacher at BOCES Goshen, NY, she was passionately involved with Special Olympics, an early founder and volunteer for the program in the Orange County area. In 1989 she was recognized for her faithful contributions to Orange County Special Olympics.

Carol was a very special soul who always found good in everyone she came in contact with, especially those less fortunate than her. For years she volunteered her time and resources to Walden Meals on Wheels and the Walden Sunshine Society, serving those in greatest need. All of those fortunate to have met her and befriended by her were forever influenced by her courageous spirit and love of others; to be as good as her example and live a good life worth living.

She is survived by her daughter Judy Mottola and her husband John Mottola, her son Bill and his wife Patricia, son Mike and his wife Tracey, and her son Bob; grandchildren Kelly and Matthew Mottola, Jessica (John) Fallone, Will Moran, Michael, Adam, Zachary and Victoria Moran; great grandchildren Anthony Moran, Benjamin and Theodore Fallone; brothers Robert and William VanWyck, many nieces and nephews as well as her beloved dog Quincy.
She was predeceased by her brother John VanWyck
