Diane Ruger, 74, a lifelong resident of Walden, NY, entered into eternal peace Thursday, March 9th at Orange Regional Medical Center. She was surrounded by the love and comfort of her family after a long illness. Diane was born December 12, 1942 in Cornwall, NY, the daughter of the late Stanley O. Shaffer and Gloria M. (Crawford) Shaffer. She is survived by her companion and love of 36 years Michael J. Kiernan of Walden, NY; Sister Suzanne Gillespie and Nephew Shaw Gillespie of Huntington Beach, CA.

Diane was previously married to Harry E. Ruger of New Windsor, NY, survived by son Robert Ruger and his wife Victoria Castenaro of Newburgh, NY and granddaughters Christina and Andrea; Daughter Gloria L. Vega and husband Louis A. Vega of Salisbury Mills; Son Russell J. Ruger of Walden, Nieces and Nephews. She enjoyed a special bond with her late Uncle John and late Aunt Elaine Koar.Diane was pre-deceased by her brothers Skip (Stanley R.) and Rick (Frederick D.) Shaffer. 

Diane had a special joy of children, mothering, homemaking, and home cooking. A self taught cook who turned the simplest of ingredients into something delicious. Diane's love of cooking lasted her a lifetime and will be missed. She had a huge heart for animals and was fond of early years caring for and riding horses. She persevered to remain active, and enjoyed memories of earlier times outdoors fishing, camping, and gardening. She worked full time for many years as a machine operator while raising a family. Diane also had a special interest in genealogy and is a member of OCGS.
 

Lovingly remembered by her family for her strength, she was hardworking, selfless, and smart. Her unique wit and sense of humor will surely be missed by all those who knew and loved her. 

Public graveside services will be handled by Millspaugh Funeral Home of Walden, NY on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at 11:30 am at Wallkill Valley Cemetery, Walden, NY.
