Elaine I (Ives) Schultz

Elaine I. Schultz of Wallkill, NY entered into rest on April 25th, 2017, in Newburgh, NY.  She was 88.  Elaine was the Co-owner of Schultz’s Turkey Farm in Dover Plains, NY.    The daughter of General Howard S. Ives and Caroline May Wallen Ives, Elaine was born May 2nd, 1928 in Middletown, CT.
She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, caring and compassionate friend, avid reader and devoted her life to promoting education and the support of individuals with various needs. Elaine was a dedicated mentor to many as a past Dover Plains School Board President.  She was a Deacon and the founder of the Backpack Snack Attack program, a mission of the Walden First Reformed Church.   Her love of books and research led her to become a board member of the Wallkill Library.
Elaine was the widow of Harold F. Schultz since 1999.  They met in Storrs, Connecticut while attending the University of Connecticut and were married in 1950.  Survivors include her daughter, Susan Kennedy and her husband Edward Kennedy of Walden, NY; son Ralph Schultz of Middletown, NY, daughter Jeanne Cortes of Tampa, FL; four grandchildren – Sandra Robertson, VA; Lameh, Ariel and Alfredo Cortes, FL; and three great grandchildren – Charlotte, Brayden and Addilyn. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, son-in-law Alfredo Cortes, brother, Hap Ives and sister, Shirley Hadley.  
A Celebration of Life will be on May 20th, 2017 at 2:00 pm with a repast to follow at the First Reformed Church of Walden, 70 Scofield Street, Walden, NY.  Rev. James O’Connell will officiate and Rev. Robert Miller will give a moment of reflection.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: Backpack Snack Attack, First Reformed Church, 70 Scofield Street, Walden, NY 12586.
