Evelyn Irene Benedict, lifetime area resident, passed away at home on Sunday, August 7, 2016 with her daughters at her side.  She was 97. The daughter of the late Florence and Elvin Presler, she was born on April 23, 1919 in Rossville, NY.  She married Alonzo R. Benedict, Jr. on April 21, 1941. They shared 63 years together until his passing in May of 2005.

Evelyn is survived by her two daughters, Janet Odendahl of Limestone, TN and Marilyn McHugh and her husband Chris of Wallkill, NY; also four grandchildren Kurt and Steven Mausolf, Julie Moussot, and John Witherel; four great grandchildren, Joshua and Hailee Witherel, Molly Mausolf, and Olivia Moussot; as well as several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband, Evelyn was pre-deceased by her sister, Marion Cook, and her daughter, Norma Mausolf.

She was a long-time member of the Wallkill Reformed Church, Chairwoman of the Church Craft Class, Willing Workers, Leptondale Women’s Club, The Wednesday Afternoon Card Club, and TOPS.  She was a homemaker and retired from J.C. Penney’s.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 9, 2016 between 5-7 p.m. at the Wallkill Funeral Home, 12 Bona Ventura Ave., Wallkill, NY.  A celebration of life will be held at the Wallkill Reformed Church, Wallkill, NY at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 9.  Interment will be at the convenience of the family at the Rossville Cemetery in Plattekill, NY.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Evelyn’s name to the Wallkill Reformed Church , P.O. Box 54, Wallkill, NY;  Hospice of Ulster County, 34 Broadway , Kingston, NY; the Walden Humane Society, 2489 Albany Post Rd., Walden, NY;  or  a charity of your choice.
