Jeremiah P. Sullivan

February 4, 1922 ~ February 3, 2016 (age 93) 93 Years Old

 

Jeremiah P. Sullivan of Montgomery, NY, a retired Borough Supervisor for City of New York, and a  resident of the area died February 3, 2016, at home in Montgomery.  He was 94.

The son of the late Jeremiah J. and Josephine Shea Sullivan, he was born February 04, 1922 in New York City.

He served in the Navy Seabees during World War II and took part in the invasions and occupation of several islands in the Philippines.  Jerry was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with 2 Battle Stars and the Combat Action Ribbon.

He was a member of NY State Society of Professional Engineers, International Union of Operating Engineers, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and the Knights of Columbus.

 Jerry earned his bachelor’s of Mechanical Engineering at the College of the City of New York. After graduation he joined Con Ed as a Tech Engineer.  He left Con Ed and became construction mechanical engineer in the building of multi-storied buildings. Jerry then joined the Housing and Buildings department in the Air Pollution Division. He last worked for the Board of Education as borough Supervisor of Plant Operations in the Bronx. He directed over 200 licensed stationary engineers and their 2000 employees in plant operation in schools and office buildings.

Upon retirement, Jerry became a consultant to architects, engineers and realty companies specializing in elevators, heating and plumbing systems.  Jerry taught courses in evening on Air Pollution for Plant Operators to qualify them with the NY City Air Pollution Department.

Jerry held the following licenses: NY State Professional Engineer, NY City Stationary Engineer, Chief Stationary Engineer City of White Plains, NY City Refrigeration Operators License, NY City Oil Burner Installation Licenses.

He was the widower of Loretta Sullivan.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews; his sisters-in-law Rose and Kathleen.

He was predeceased by his brothers Cornelius, John and Father Joseph D. Sullivan, infant sister Josephine.

Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 am, Saturday, February 13, at Overhiser Funeral Home, 78 Union St., Montgomery, NY.

A funeral mass will be 10:30 am, Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Holy Name of Mary Church, 89 Union St., Montgomery, NY.

Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in White Plains, NY.
