John Paul Stockli

October 10, 1932 ~ May 15, 2016 (age 83) 83 Years Old

John Paul Stockli, "Pops", of the Hamlet of Wallkill, NY, passed away on Sunday May 15, 2016 at the age of 83. The son of the late Joseph and Anastasia Stockli, he was born in the Bronx in 1932, moving to Bruynswick in his early teens.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Dot, and is survived by a daughter, Diana (Van) of Wallkill and a son, John (Patricia) of East Greenbush, NY; Cherished grandchildren Conor (Brooke) Smith, Grant (Asia)Smith, Jack & Lauren Stickli, and four great-grandchildren, Mille, Nate, Hart, and Sebastian. John is survived by his sister Jean (Steve) Pfeffer, and two brothers, Gerald(Dorothy) Stockli and Robert (Jeanette) Stockli. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph. He is also survived by Annie Togna, his sister in law, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
John led a life devoted to his family and his community. At the age of 20, he entered the Army and was assigned to K Company of the 17th Infantry Regiment, with which he served in the Korean War, including the July 1953 Battle of Pork Chop Hill. Upon his return he married Dot, living on Kill Road and together raising a family well versed in the importance of unconditional love, hard work, and good times. Living in the shadow of the mountain appealed to him, and even upon moving to the other side of Shawangunk in the nineties, he made sure he always had a clear view of them.
John enjoyed cutting firewood, vacationing with his family, barbequing, attending his grandchildren's games and recitals,, playing poker with Jean and Steve, and boating on Lake George. In his retirement, he gained great pleasure helping others through volunteering for Meals on Wheels.
In his last years, John was fortunate to be brought back to the shadow of the mountains, living with Diana and Van. Their care, comfort, and company enhanced his life tremendously, provided him a steady stream of poker winnings, and supplied endless hugs from his great grandchildren.
