I got to know Mrs. Velie through my friendship with her daughter, Kim. Mrs. Velie was just as this lovely tribute describes: vivacious, caring, gracious. Her home was not only immaculate but friendly and welcoming, just like the lady herself. Many of Kim's friends (I among them) settled into a comfy chair -- or at the table in the straight-out-of-Better-Homes-and-Gardens kitchen -- telling our troubles to Mrs. Velie while she sympathized and gave good advice. She actually listened to people and took an interest in them -- very rare. I am very thankful I had the chance to get to know her.
