Thomas Lyons McHugh entered into rest on September 24, 2015.  He was the son of the late Jesse and Harriette McHugh of Wallkill, New York.  Thomas was predeceased by his brother, Jesse McHugh.  He is survived by his brother, Chris and wife Marilyn McHugh of Wallkill; his sister-in-law, Elizabeth McHugh of Gardiner; his cousin Dale Thompson of Wallkill; in addition to a niece and nephews.

Thomas, formerly of New York City, was graduated from the Parsons School of Design and New York University.  Even though a childhood illness caused his deafness, he went on to become a classical pianist.  As a painter and designer, Thomas’ work was internationally represented, and he had associations with Bergdorf Goodman; Henri Bendel; Tiffany and Co.; Joseph Aronson, architect; Anne Klein, fashion designer; William Baldwin, interior designer; J. Walter Thompson, advertising; CBS Television; The Hearst Corporation; Sheraton Hotels; Rheem Manufacturing; Columbia Pictures Industries; among others. Thomas advocated the classical philosophy of simplicity, suitability, and proportion.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. In keeping with Thomas’ love for dogs, especially for his pug Elmer, donations can be made to the Walden Humane Society, PO Box 135, Walden, NY 12586.
