Agnes Poole Obituary

Agnes Regina Poole passed away June 16, 2020 in Montgomery, NY.

She was predeceased by parents Richard and Mary Poole; brothers Richard and Donald Poole and her beloved cat, Cocoa; remembered and celebrated as a dedicated daughter, a devoted aunt, a loyal friend, an independent spirit, and a devout servant of our Lord.

Agnes is survived by her sister-in-law Jackie Poole and her nine nieces and nephews (and their families): Richard Poole, William Poole, Elizabeth Naftaniel, Kathleen Gleason, Thomas Poole, Jude Poole, Mary Poole, John Poole and Melissa Hempel.

Born in Flushing, Agnes was raised in Brooklyn and Queens before moving to Montgomery where she made her home. Early in her career, Agnes served the US Military as an executive secretary. Later, in 1971, at the age of 38, Agnes became a licensed registered professional nurse and achieved a number of advanced nursing certificates throughout her career.

After Agnes retired, she enjoyed working part time in retail, traveling, and visiting her dear friends and family members. Agnes was an active member of the church, participating in a variety of parish activities with youth instruction a particular favorite. She was a treasured member of Our Lady of the Assumption Choir, and considered Bette Bonitz and the rest of the choir her dear friends.

Along with being a caring and compassionate friend and family member, Agnes was very independent. She purchased and built her home in 1976, and enjoyed “Poole Acres” on Emperor Lane until 2020 when she moved into a care facility for a brief time. Her Montgomery homestead hosted many a family gathering, friendly visits and was a spot where neighbors regularly visited.

Agnes loved to travel, and adventured in the United States as well as other countries. She often was accompanied by her beloved friends, Lorretta Franklin and Maureen Healy, both of whose families were close to Agnes and will always be part of the Poole extended family.

The family wishes to express special thanks to the Montgomery Nursing Home, and to the Cardwell family who looked after Agnes’ house. Our Lady of the Assumption’s Parish Coordinator Beth Texter and Millspaugh Funeral Directors' staff are especially appreciated for their guidance and support.

A funeral mass is scheduled for Wednesday, April 10 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Bloomingburg. A celebration of life will be held at noon in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the youth programs of Our Lady of the Assumption or to a charity of your choice.
