Alexander Elia, Sr

Alexander Elia Sr. of Pine Bush NY passed away after a long illness on October 8, 2018. He was 90 years young. He was the son of the late Dominick and Frances Russo Elia. He was born in NYC on February 25, 1928. 

Alexander was a proud Army veteran. He served in the Army intelligence at the end of  WWII in  Yokohama Japan. He worked for over 30 years as design engineer at Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton N.Y. He designed the circuitry for the first video game Pong.

He was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years Theresa Elia. Survivors include his son Alexander J. Elia and his wife Robin of Walden NY. Grandchildren Matthew Elia and  his partner Liz Guarino, of Long Island City, NY, Christopher Elia and his wife Katherine of Bronxville NY.

Alexander was an avid fisherman who taught his sons and grandsons the love of the sport. He was devoted to his family, especially his "boys" Matthew and Chris. He never missed a football game, concert or play. Watching his grandsons succeed was his greatest joy!  Alexander was a long time member of both the Walker Valley and Pine Bush seniors. He was the treasurer for the Pine Bush seniors for many years. He also was an active member of the American Legion Post #1308, Pine Bush NY, where he served as their chaplain for several years.

The family would like to thank Evett Wisdon and Catherine Walden for taking care of him with such love and compassion these last 3 1/2 years. They would also like to thank Norma Merwyn for always being a phone call away to help with his care. The family would like to acknowledge
 the amazing people who worked for The VA Hudson Valley Home Based Care program and Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties.

Visitation will be Thursday October 11, from 2-4, 7-9 at Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank St. Walden NY.  A mass of the Christian Burial will be 11am at Most Precious Blood Church, 42 Walnut Street Walden NY. Burial will be in the Orange County Veterans Cemetery, Goshen NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Legion Post # 1308, 4 Martin St., Pine Bush, NY 12566
