Gregory McAdam

Gregory McAdam of Montgomery, NY, passed away Thursday, February 22, 2018. He was 74.

Greg was the oldest of five children born to John and Eileen McAdam. Raised in Franklin Square, NY, he graduated from H. Frank Carey HS.  He went to college in Cortland, NY where he played lacrosse, and received a law degree from University of Buffalo. 

On July 27, 1968 he married Eileen Phalen and went on to practice law in Walden where he practiced for 40 years.  He also served as Village Justice for several years.  Greg was still working until recently. 

Greg assumed the role of Patriarch of the McAdam family for more than fifty years. He was pre-deceased by his loving wife, Eileen.  He is survived by his daughter Kimberly and her beloved Anthony Torna, his son Gillon and his wife Kiersha and his most adored granddaughter, Aurora.  Also, his brothers John, Neil, Tim and sister, Eileen, as well as many nieces and nephews, and he adored them all. 

Greg was independent, hard working and fun loving, socially engaged and totally committed to his family. He was a mediocre athlete at best,but the best family man anybody could ask for.As the eldest sibling he was like a father, always concerned and looking out for his younger siblings.  He went to work in his teens at a golf course, worked as a boiler maker at the World’s Fair in 1964.  He paid his own way through college and law school.

He was always involved for his children providing the opportunities for education, skiing, travel, and more with much love and support.

Greg and Eileen were the ultimate hosts:  Eileen, of course the artist and Greg the obedient servant but the results were always stunning.  He was known for his egg nog at Christmas.  Whether at their home in Montgomery or ski home in Killington, guests always felt welcome.  They are missed and always will be.

Memorial visitation will be Wednesday, February 28, 2018 from 2-4pm and 6-7:30pm at Overhiser Funeral Home, 78 Union Street, Montgomery, NY 12549.

A memorial service will follow at 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Finley Shaff will officiate.
