John T. "Jack" Arnold of Rock Tavern, NY, a life-long resident of the area, passed away Monday, April 10, 2017, peacefully at St.Luke’s in Newburgh. He was 89. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 59 years, Theresa B. Arnold.

He was well-known in the automobile industry.  He started at BJ York in the 1950’s.  He was the owner/operator of a brand new Studebaker Dealership from 1958-1960.  Jack is most widely remembered as the owner of Jack Arnold, Inc. Used Cars of Montgomery for 30 years.  He also worked for numerous Chevrolet dealers in the eighties and nineties. Jack was named to the Chevrolet Truck Sales Honor Club in 1985 as the top national truck salesman. He was passionate about cars, particularly from the 1950’s era.

The son of the late John E. and Catherine Coffey Arnold, he was born July 5, 1927 in Newburgh. He graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1945.

Jack served as an electrician’s mate on the USS Howard W. Gilmore in Key West, Fl immediately following graduation from NFA. He was a member of the USS Howard W. Gilmore Association. After the service, Jack attended Orange County Community College.  He was passionate about life in general and particularly his country. He held numerous positions including Orange County Commander of the American Legion and Commander of Judson P. Galloway Post #152 in Newburgh.  In 2015, Jack had the privilege of participating in the Hudson Valley Honor Flight #10.

He married Theresa "Teddy" Bevans on June 1, 1957 at St. Thomas of Canterbury, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY. Jack & Teddy devoted their life to the raising of their seven children.  Jack enjoyed automobiles, golf, Scrabble, Pinochle, bird watching, walking, reading and writing.  After retiring, he volunteered for the literacy program at the Newburgh Free Library.

Jack embraced life; he lived each day to the fullest, always looking forward to his next adventure.

Jack loved and was so very proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren;

Daughter Mary Gould and her husband Kevin of Newburgh; Son  John Arnold at home; Son Jim Arnold of South Carolina, Lynn Arnold of North Carolina;
Daughter Frances Wirth and her husband Brian of New Windsor; Son Edward Arnold of North Carolina; Son  Bernard(BJ)Arnold and his wife Jennifer of Salisbury Mills;
Son Patrick Arnold and his wife Yvette of New Windsor;
Grandchildren Ryan Gould, Matthew Gould, Stephen Gould, Kayla Gould, Kyle Arnold, Shannon Arnold,  Andrew Arnold, Spencer Arnold, Harrison Arnold, Nicholas Arnold, Sienna Arnold,
Oliver Arnold, Regan Arnold, Kira Arnold, Christopher Wirth, Timothy Wirth, Michael Wirth and his wife Marcella of Newburgh;
Great-Grandchildren Olivia and James Wirth;
Brothers Tom Arnold, Michael Arnold(Helene)
Sisters Sr. John Catherine, O.P., Rose Arnold
Many nieces and nephews including the Arnold, Bevans, Hall, Henderson, Lynch, Murphy and Warrener families.

He was predeceased by
his parents and sisters  Marie, Catherine, Betsy

Visitation will be  Monday, April 17, 2017, 4-7 pm, at the Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank St. Walden, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, 10 am at St. Mary's Church,42 Goshen Ave, Washingtonville, NY 10992.

Burial will be in St. Thomas of Canterbury Cemetery, Cornwall, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hudson Valley Honor Flight, P.O. Box 375, Walden, NY 12586, or the Edmundite Missions, 1428  Broad St. Selma, AL 36701.
