On January 5, 2018, very peacefully, and surrounded by his family, Robert “Bob” Abel passed away at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh, NY.  He was 69 years old.

Bob was born in Mount Kisco, NY on November 1, 1948. Son of the late Theodore and Dolores (Miller) Abel. Bob was raised in Peekskill, NY and then spent most of his adult life in Brewster, NY before moving to Rock Tavern, NY five years ago. On April 18, 1970 he married his beloved wife, Eva (Bryceland) Abel at The United Methodist Church in Peekskill, NY. 

Bob served in the United States Navy from 1967-1971 as an active member of the Helicopter Squadron, serving in Virginia Beach and Lakehurst, NJ. After completing his military service, Bob began his career on the railroad, with many years in Grand Central Terminal under Penn Central and ConRail until his retirement from North White Plains under Metro North Railroad in 2010.

Bob was a dearly beloved husband, a cherished and devoted father, father-in-law, and grandfather. He was also a beloved brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and a very treasured friend. Bob is survived by his wife Eva, his daughter Alison Abel Conrad and her husband Paul Conrad of Walden, NY, and his son Robert “Rob” Abel and his wife Jessica (Betz) Abel of Decatur, GA. Bob is also survived by his three treasured grandsons, Cameron, Matthew, and Jack Conrad, also of Walden, NY.  Bob was predeceased by his parents and his infant daughter Heather Michelle Abel.

More than anything else in life, Bob loved his family. He adored his children, his son-in-law and daughter-in-law, and he cherished his grandchildren. He loved to take his children fishing and he loved family vacations in Lake George, NY.  Bob will be remembered by all who knew him for his extraordinary quick wit and his incredible sense of humor.  

The Abel family would like to sincerely thank the entire nursing staff at 4 North in St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital for their constant and consistent care, devotion, compassion, and friendship throughout Bob’s illness. 

Friends may call at Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank Street, Walden, NY 12586  on Thursday, January 11, 2018 between the hours of 4 and 7 p.m. A celebration of Bob’s life will take place at Millspaugh Funeral Home at 6:30 p.m. A private graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Hillside Cemetery in Cortlandt, NY.
