Robert Jessup Tyrrell

Robert Jessup Tyrrell, age 94, of Newburgh, NY, entered into his eternal life peacefully on April 11, 2018.  Robert was born on April 8th, 1924 in Middletown, NY to Mahlon and Beatrice Tyrrell.

Robert is survived by the love of his life, Helen Joyce Gould, whom he married on November 23rd, 1952 after six and a half years of courting.  They were happily together until the moment he passed. Robert and Helen were blessed with three daughters, Cathy Masztalics and her husband Joseph of Walden, NY, Susan Kubicek and her husband Lawrence of Bloomington, NY and Alyson Stewart and her husband Michael of Poughkeepsie, NY.  Robert was also a loving grandfather to 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by his sister, Martha Kucik of Santa Margarita, CA and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and older brother, Mahlon Tyrrell.  

Robert was a graduate of Middletown High School and Rider College, where he obtained a degree in Business and Commerce.  Robert proudly served his nation as a Sergeant in the US Army Air Corps 333 Bomb Group 435th squadron during World War II in Okinawa. Robert and Helen briefly owned the Cup and Saucer luncheonette in Port Jervis, NY prior to him becoming a career salesman for Tip Top Bread.

Robert had many hobbies that included gardening, trains, cooking and, of course, fishing with his best friend, Eddie and brother in law, George.  Robert loved his family fiercely and did his best to instill his passionate love of the Lord upon those he met and his community.

Robert was proudly a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist church in Middletown, NY before moving to Newburgh, NY, where he became a faithful servant at Grace United Methodist Church.  There he served as an usher, sat on the Board of Trustees and helped to Co-Chair the Food Pantry with his beloved wife.  Robert was proud to be a Mason and a member of the Phoenix Fire Company in Middletown, NY.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 15, 2018 from 3:00-6:00pm at Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank St., Walden, NY 12586.
A Celebration of Life will be Monday, April 16, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., at Grace United Methodist Church, 468 Broadway, Newburgh, NY 12550.
Entombment of ashes will take place on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 12:00 pm Orange County Veteran's Cemetery, Goshen, NY.
