Walter Robert Winsjansen of Maybrook, NY, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017.  He was 92.

The son of the late Vincentz Emil Winsjansen and Signe Eralie Mathilde Kulo Winsjansen, he was born May 07, 1925 in Brooklyn, NY.

Walter (Bob) served in the Navy aboard the USS Quincy (CA-71) during World War II seeing action in the invasion of Normandy, the Mediterranean and later in the Pacific.  For his service off the coast of France, he was awarded the French Legion of Honor.  After the war, Bob married Elizabeth Tierney (deceased) and lived for a period in Alaska where he enjoyed fishing and family. Later, he worked as a U.S. Merchant Mariner for Poling Transportation based in New York City. He was also a former Post Commander for the local VFW in Hawley, Pennsylvania.

Survivors include:Daughters Bonnie Nygard & husband Wayne, Diana Radziwanowski & husband Kenneth, Patricia Hogan & husband Daniel; Son Scott Winsjansen & wife Stephanie; Grandchildren,  William Hogan, Kristin Wexler, Daniel Hogan, Kaitlin Sinicropi, Elizabeth Hogan, Lianne Radziwanowski, Matthew Hogan, Nicholas Winsjansen, Natalie Swope, Katie McCowan
Great Grandchildren, Abigail, Julian, Luna

Burial will take place in Long Island National Cemetery.
