Ana (Fernandez) Diaz

Ana Diaz of Wallkill, NY, passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2025 in Plattekill. She concluded a long battle with the side effects of cancer by peacefully extending her night's slumber into eternal rest. She was 65.
The daughter of Eduardo Fernandez and the late Milagros Ortiz Fernandez, she was born February 11, 1960 in the Bronx, NY. She met the love of her life, Russell Diaz, early in childhood, and the two started dating in 6th grade. They celebrated 44 years of marriage in Ana's final year.
Ana was the third of eight children in her family, and was loved by them as a tireless caretaker and helper.
Ana worked for years as a cafeteria aide in the Wallkill Central School District, where she was beloved by coworkers and students alike.
An intensely private person, Ana's greatest pleasures were gardening, birdwatching, and doting on a small pack of rescued terriers. She was always ready and enthusiastic about helping out her children and grandchildren, doing everything from attending dance recitals to watching over them on sick days. She enjoyed arts and crafts, and spent many happy hours watching Hallmark movies with her husband in her later years.
She was a member of the Newburgh West congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.She is survived by her husband Russell, son Michael and his wife Emily, daughter Ashley Diaz-Rotunno and her husband Jake, her father Eduardo Fernandez, and her six brothers: Freddie, Eddie, Gene, David, Danny, and Gregory. She adored her four grandchildren: Ben, Lyra, Orson, Nora.
Along with her mother Milagros, she was predeceased by her sister Gloria Lozada.
Cremation and services will take place privately at the convenience of the family.
