Christopher William Jinks, 73, of Montgomery, New York, departed his home berth on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, embarking on his final voyage and navigating the journey to his last Port of Call.
Born on Christmas Day, 1952, in Newark, New Jersey, Chris was the son of the late Frederick J. Jinks Sr. and the late Patricia O'Brien Jinks.
Chris proudly served in the United States Navy from 1971 to 1979, attaining the rank of Electronics Technician Petty Officer First Class (E-6). Following his military service, he built a distinguished career in electronics and engineering, working for RCA Solid State Division, TRW Compressor Components Division, and later earning an Associate of Applied Science degree in Electronics Technology. He went on to serve as a Senior Engineering Lab Specialist at IBM Microelectronics in East Fishkill, New York, and with its successor companies, including Micrus and Philips/NXP Semiconductors.
A lifelong mariner, Chris was an avid boater who took great pride in earning his United States Coast Guard Merchant Marine Officer 100-Ton Master Inland Captain's License, along with numerous endorsements. He was a Past Commander of the Storm King U.S. Power Squadron, where he taught boating courses and shared his passion for safe and responsible boating with others. Chris was also an active member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and spent many years enjoying life on the water at the Cornwall Yacht Club.
Beyond his love of boating, Chris was deeply involved in his community. Earlier in life, he served as a coach and umpire for Montgomery Little League, helping young athletes develop both their skills and their love of the game. He was also a proud member of the American Legion for more than four decades.
Whether teaching a boating course, coaching and umpiring for the Little League, serving his country, or spending time with family, Chris found his greatest satisfaction in helping others learn, grow, and succeed. While he was proud of his military service, engineering career, and accomplishments on the water, he was most proud of his family and the time he spent with those he loved.
Chris was predeceased by his father, Frederick J. Jinks Sr.; his mother, Patricia O'Brien Jinks; and his beloved wife, Pamela S. LeVan Jinks.
He is survived by his son, Sean P. Jinks, and his wife, Lauren, of Holbrook, New York; their children, Ryan, Patrick, and Colin; his daughter, Elizabeth L. Jinks and wife, Kimberly McDowell, of Montgomery, New York, and daughter, McKenzie Zieran; his brothers, Frederick J. Jinks Jr. (Susan) of Leland, North Carolina, and Kevin J. Jinks (Kim) of Smithtown, New York; his sisters, Ellen Walters of Yaphank, New York, and Carolyn Jinks of New York, New York; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no public viewing. Graveside services will be held at a future date at Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Goshen, New York. Following the service will be a celebration of life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a charitable organization that Chris proudly supported throughout his life, or to The Miles of Hope Breast Foundation
