Claire V. Stap of Montgomery, NY, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2026, in Campbell Hall. She was 92.  The daughter of the late Mark and Sadie Vandersea, she was born April 2, 1934 in Whitinsville, MA.  In 1934, her family moved to Monroe NY and started Goshen Christian Reformed Church of which she is a founding member.

She married her husband, William “Bill” Stap, of 72 years on March 14, 1952.  She was widowed on January 09, 2025. Claire is survived by her children Mark Stap (Darlene), Nancy Wilson, Jim Stap (Kerry), Robert Stap (Stacey), Joan Mossbarger (Dave), and Joyce Amels (Jim); many grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by her sister Evelyn VanDerHeide – Moore (Bob) and her brother Harold Vandersea (Marilyn).  Along with her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her son, John Stap and her granddaughter, Melissa Wilson.

Claire was a beloved farm wife and mother. While on the farm, she worked for a neighbor pouring molds for ceramics.  After they left the farm, she went to work for Sears Roebuck Inc, Middletown, NY.  After retiring from Sears, she worked part time at Hoeffner Farms in Montgomery.  She was a 10 volunteer in the Orange County 4-H, 1970 to 1980 where she mentored many 4-Hers and she was very involved in the church. She participated in Helping Hands Society, Stewards Bible Study and Senior Bible Study. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, and spending time with family.

Visitation will take place Tuesday May 12, 2026, 4:30-7:30pm at Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank St., Walden, NY 12586.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Goshen Christian Reformed Church, 2440 State Route 17A, Goshen, NY 10924. Burial will follow at Wallkill Cemetery, Middletown, NY.
