It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our Colleen. Colleen M. Hasbrouck of Walden (formerly a resident of Circleville NY), passed away Tuesday February 11, 2025, in Walden. She was 61.
The daughter of James and Carolyn (Beger) O ‘Rourke, she was born September 29, 1963 in Newburgh, NY.
Colleen was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend to many. She is also survived by many Aunts and Uncles, and extended family. Colleen worked as a special education teacher for the Pine Bush Central School District. Colleen retired from this role that she loved so much. Colleen was highly regarded by her students. They would call her Mrs. “H”, and would even stop to see Colleen at her home well after they left her care.
Colleen was a strong advocate for children. She provided urgent foster care to children, opening her home to those in need.
Colleen loved her dogs Camo and Bo. She opened her heart and home to any furry or feathery creature. Once her neighbors goose attached itself to her, and would follow Colleen around even into her home, where it was known to watch tv with her sitting on the couch.
Colleen was an avid reader since a young age, her favorite place would be sitting on the beach in Cape May with a true crime novel in hand. A fondness of word and trivia games, always up for family game night followed by hours of hilarity and laughter. She loved to make people laugh and would get great joy out of playing practical jokes on her family and co-workers especially during secret Santa placing mysterious gifts in others mail boxes.
Colleen was a giving and caring person, she gave more in life than she asked in return. She had a heart of gold and she will be missed.
She is survived by her parents James and Carolyn O’Rourke of Wallkill NY, children Brian Hasbrouck of Montgomery NY , Victoria Hasbrouck of Goshen NY, Tiffany Hasbrouck of Town of Scotchtown NY, and William Hasbrouck at home, brother(s) Shawn O’Rourke and his wife Kristen and their Children Opal and Calvin of Colorado Springs CO, Terence O’Rourke, and his two children Ethan and Emma of Middletown NY.
