Dennis Greene of Montgomery, New York, a longtime resident of the area, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 10, 2022. He was 79 years old.
The son of the late John and Margaret (née Herlihy) Greene, he was born October 1, 1942 in New York, New York.
Dennis grew up in the Inwood neighborhood of Manhattan and attended Rice High School in New York City. Upon graduation, he served honorably in the United States Army where he attained the rank of Corporal. After returning home from serving his country, he worked briefly with American Airlines prior to becoming a member of the New York City Police Department. Dennis had a 27-year career where he worked throughout the Bronx and Manhattan and retired as a Lieutenant from the Manhattan North Task Force. His career provided him many stories to retell to any and all golfers during his time working at the Winding Hills Golf Club during his retirement. He was a member of the Holy Name of Mary Church in Montgomery, the Knights of Columbus Council No. 2270, the New Horizons Senior Club in Montgomery, and the Middletown YMCA. He was a wonderful father, a proud grandfather, an avid reader, and an amazing storyteller.
Dennis was predeceased by his wife, Mary and his sister, Julia Farrell. Survivors include his daughter Christine; son Michael and his wife, Erika; grandchildren Joseph and Colin Greene; sisters Catherine Greene and Theresa Greene; nephew John Farrell; nieces Margaret Farrell and Dierdre (Larry) Traficante; and cousins in Ireland.
Visitation will be Monday, April 25, 2022 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Overhiser Funeral Home, 78 Union Street Montgomery, New York.
A funeral service will take place Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Montgomery, New York. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Montgomery, New York.
