Donald Anthony Maselli

September 15, 1942 ~ April 21, 2021 (age 78)

Donald Anthony Maselli, of Montgomery, New York, died peacefully at home on April 21 following a long illness.

Don was born in Readsboro, Vermont on September 15, 1942, to the late Enrico Maselli and the late Julia (Eccher) Maselli. He was raised in Vermont and in Pittsfield, Massachusetts; after graduating from Pittsfield High School in 1960, he began his 34-year career with Sears, Roebuck and Company. He was an award-winning speedskater and won the Massachusetts State Skeet Shooting Class C Championship in 1967, just before moving to New York State.

After retiring from Sears, Don worked for the Saint Cabrini Home, a non-profit organization in West Park, New York serving both retired Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and area youth with emotional or family difficulties. In 2002 Don was instrumental in restoring a chapel on the site of the Cabrini Home’s sacred spring. Don spent years as an ASA and NCAA softball umpire, and spent many happy hours shooting sporting clays with friends at the Wallkill Rod and Gun Club.

Don was preceded in death by his wife of forty years Judith Anne (Sweeney) Maselli. He is survived by daughter Kimberly Maselli Schmelzinger and her husband John, by daughter Andrea Maselli and her partner Drew Lounsbury, by brother Bruno Maselli and his wife Christine, and sister Linda (Maselli) Keehnle and her husband Kenneth, by brother-in-law D. Paul Sweeney III and his wife Diana, and by Donna Sibley, his loving companion of the last eight years. Don was the proud grandfather of Jack Schmelzinger, Grace Schmelzinger, Connor Froehlich, and Samantha Froehlich.
