Dr.Sankhavaram R. Panini was born to the late Sankhavaram Raghavacharya, a poet and academician and Jayalakshmi Gomutum, a homemaker, on August 8, 1950. Dr. Panini finished his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the prestigious Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, India at the age of 24. He pursued research and academics as a career and holding positions at several academic institutions in the US, culminating as the Chair of Biochemistry at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, Middletown, NY.
Dr. Panini was an educator at heart, as a professional and to his large, loving family. Whether interacting with a child or an adult, knowledgeable or naïve, his ability to resonate with the others was the essence of his life. He was soft-spoken and always chose the high ground in all of his interactions. He was patient and made an earnest effort to answer a question or solve a problem.
Dr. Panini is survived by his wife Aruna, sons Sampath and Jaimini, daughters-in-law Ximena Diez de Bonilla and Annie Sistrunk, and granddaughters Camila, Frida, Maya and Elina. He will be missed and his memory cherished by colleagues, students and loving family.
A funeral service will be Friday, June 10, 2022, from 2pm-4pm at Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank St., Walden, NY 12586.
