Elayne Joy VanderKooy of Wurtsboro, NY, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2026. She was 67.
The daughter of the late Kaare Titland and Helen (Johannsen) Titland, she was born June 29, 1959.
Elayne was born in Brooklyn , NY and grew up in Nanuet , NY . She has met the love of her life Leonard during her trip to Idaho and they had returned back to New York together to start their family. They have raised 5 children Kari, John, Daniel, Rachel and Tore. While raising her youngest she started taking classes at local college and got her nursing degree in 1997. She started working at a local hospital and retired after twenty plus years of nursing in 2021.
She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her kind heart and her unconditional love for everyone. She was a giver. She would never expect anything in return. She just always wanted to help others…that was her nature and that’s why she was loved by everyone. She loved adventure and traveling. She loved God and was active in her church Bread of Life. But most of all she loved her family. She was an amazing wife and the best mom and grandmother. She has touched countless lives throughout her nursing career and her everyday life.
She is survived by her husband Leonard VanderKooy, daughter Karilyn VanderKooy & Crystal, son John VanderKooy & Jana, son Daniel VanderKooy & Gina, daughter Rachel Woodson, son Tore VanderKooy, 12 Grandchildren, 2 Great Grandchildren and 1 on the way, brother Kenny Titland, sister Lavonne Shunter and many cousins in both America and Norway.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Heidi Herring.
Visitation will take place Monday, July 13, 2026, 3pm-4:30pm at Bread of Life Church, 2876 Route 17K, Bullville, NY. A service will follow after at 5pm.
Cremation will take place privately.
