Elwood F. Gorton Jr. of Walden, NY, passed away on January 6th, 2025, in Middletown, NY after a courageous twenty-year battle with Inclusion Body Myositis. He was 79.
Elwood (Bucky) was born in California and raised in Montgomery, NY by his father Elwood Gorton and his mother, Mary (Colligan) Gorton. He graduated from Valley Central High School in Montgomery, NY and was employed as an engineer for thirty years with IBM. Bucky had a love for aviation and involvement with the Hudson Valley Hornets. Survivors include his daughter Vicki Pelella and her husband Chris Pelella of Wallkill, NY, his son Gregory Gorton and his wife Alison Gorton of Ballston Spa, NY, four grandchildren, Andrew, Dominic, Hannah and Alissa, brother Robert Gorton (Gail) of Daytona Beach, Florida, sister Kathleen Gorton of Albany, and many other family members and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Doreen Gorton, his brother Ralph Gorton, and his parents.
Memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, January 11th from 9:30am to 11:30am at Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank Street, Walden, NY 12586. A memorial service will immediately follow the visitation at the funeral home.
Private interment will take place in the spring at the discretion of the family.
The family would like to thank all of the amazing doctors and nurses at Garnet Health in Middletown as well as Bucky’s full-time aide, Mike. Mike did an extraordinary job of taking care of Bucky 24/7 for the last 4 years. Words cannot express our gratitude, and he will always be considered part of our family.
