Evelyn F. (Starr) Wood

It is with great sorrow, to announce the passing of Evelyn F. Wood on April 3, 2025, from Montgomery, NY, while she was in the care of Garnet Hospital, Middletown, NY.

She was the daughter of Ethel Gourlet and Frank Lee Starr. She was born November 22, 1943, in the Bronx. She was 81 years old.

She started her career as a licensed hairdresser in the Bronx, working in a nursing home. From there, she developed a passion in caring for elderly and disabled folks, eventually becoming a licensed care taker. She cared for folks primarily with Alzheimer's Disease, where she gave generous, compassionate, and loving care to her patients.

After moving to Florida, NY, she met and loved her husband for over 40 years. Along with her husband, she managed the Goshen Garden Apartments for over 32 years. They briefly retired in Dingman's Ferry, PA. However, while missing their family, they moved back to Orange County, NY. 

Everywhere they went, she made friends due to her kind, generous, and very sweet nature. Everyone knew her as Evelyn, Ev, Evie, and Bubba. She loved to laugh, had an infectious smile and left a lasting impression on folks they met along the way. She made her marriage and life one big adventure.  

She was predeceased by her eldest son, Daniel O'Reilly, her sister, Frances O'Brien, and her brother, Frank Lee Starr J.R. aka "Bud".

She is survived by her husband Ron Wood; her daughter Patricia Wilson & her husband Alan Wilson; her son James Patrick O'Reilly & his wife Yvonne; her step-son James Wood & his wife Wendy, Cheryl Samz & her husband Gary; John Wood and his wife Marlene.

She had 17 grandchildren: Danielle Fiorello; Bryce O'Reilly; Mia, Addison, Braxton, and Walker O'Reilly; Michele, Sara, Ryan, Jared, and Erin Wood; Brian and Katie Duff; Taylor and Matt Raimando, Kyle and Elena Doce. 

She had 2 great-grandchildren: Magdalena Raimando and Everly Violet Doce. 

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Evelyn's life on Sunday, April 6th, 6pm to 7:30pm at Overhiser Funeral Home 78 Union St, Montgomery NY.

A service will be held at 7:30pm.
