Fr. Robert Panek

Fr. Robert Panek of Montrose, NY, passed away Sunday, October 31,2021 in Montrose, NY. He was 77.

The son of the late Edward Panek and Stephanie Getz Panek, he was born July 16, 1944 in Mount Vernon, NY.

Fr. Bob was ordained as a priest on December 5, 1970 and served for the Archdiocese of New York for over 50 years. He also served in the US Navy, as a Naval Chaplain, 1992-2001 and 1986-1989 and served during Iraq, stationed in Bahrain. Fr. Bob completed high school and his first two years of college at Cathedral College Preparatory, NYC, and his last two years of college and four years of graduate work at St. Joseph’s Seminary, Yonkers, NY. He was the former Pastor of St. Charles Borromeo, Gardiner, NY from 2001-2013. He served as parochial vicar at St. Catherine Laboure, Lake Katrine, 2001; St. Casimir, Yonkers, 1989-1992 and 1980-1986, and Sacred Heart, Mount Vernon, 1970-1980.

“Uncle Bob”, as he was lovingly known, is survived by his many nieces and nephews: Steven, Debra, Kyle, Jessica, Conner, Charlie Keindl, Steven and fiancé Danielle Keindl, Dylan and fiancé Brianna, Mia Keindl, Sharon and Glen Chase, Carolyn O’Neal, Wesley and Breanna, Alex and Benjamin O’Neal, Kathleen Macrillo, Mark Macrillo, Karlina, Carter, Vincent and Cora, Stephanie, Thibaud, Sloane, Jack Wallaert.

Cousins Joseph and Kathleen Gawloski, Jackie Panek, Virginia Zaniewski, Irene Maiolo, Helen Notaro.

He was predeceased by his parents Stephanie and Edward Panek and his sister Dorothy Russell and brother-in-law Newell Russell.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 7, 2021, 2pm-7pm at Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank St., Walden, NY 12586.

A Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, November 8, 2021 at 11am at St Charles Borromeo,2212 US-44, Gardiner, NY 12525.

Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery.
