Gerald (Jerry) Edmund Broas of Lake Katrine, NY, formerly of Walden, NY, passed away after a short illness, on May 12, 2026, at Health Alliance Hospital in Kingston. He was 100 years old.

The son of the late Bingham E. Broas and Melba (Sutton) Broas, Gerald was born on June 24,1925, in Walden, New York. He married Althea Mae Fescoe on Valentine’s Day 1947.  The marriage lasted 72 years before her passing.

In his youth Gerald worked on the construction of several Army Airfields in New York and Massachusetts, including Steward Field in Newburgh, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Army and was Honorably Discharged in 1946. He was a Sales Rep for Widmann Brothers, Inc, in Spring Valley and Walden, N.Y. prior to joining IBM, from which he retired in 1990 as a Senior Systems Analyst, he was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club, Wallkill Lodge No. 627, F&AM, an Honorary Member of Enterprise Steamer Company No. 02, Walden Fire Department and American Legion Post No. 1398, Port Ewen N.Y.

Survivors include a daughter, Deborah E. Broas Bennett-Nott; his grandsons, Jonathan B. Nott, his wife, Nora Nott; Kelly B. Bennett, his wife, Laura Giovanelli; his great-granddaughter, Beatrice M. Bennett; his brother, Donald M. Broas; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Althea Mae Fescoe Broas; his sister, Melba Marleah Baty of Montgomery, N.Y., and Cousins Shirley (Sutton) Bullis of Wallkill, N.Y and Ruthie (Sutton) OReilly of Walden, N.Y.

Daughter Debbie, would like to give a sincere thank you to friends, Anna Gangi, Jessica Sheehan, Irene Hodder, and Michael Sheran, MD, without whose help, she would not have been able to assist her Dad, Jerry, to reach a vibrant 100 years and 11 months of age.  

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank Street, Walden, NY 12586.

A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM at the funeral home.

Burial will follow, at Wallkill Valley Cemetery in Walden, New York.

In honor of Gerald’s service as a veteran, a flag-folding ceremony will take place at the cemetery.
