Giovanna Fellin Rossi, 81, of Newburgh, died Dec. 28, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born Jan. 2, 1944, in Revo, Trentino Alto Adige, northern Italy, the daughter of Gelindo Fellin and Anna Corra Fellin. In 1972, she immigrated to the United States, first settling in Queens, N.Y. In 1983, she moved with her family to Wallkill, where she made her home for many years.
Giovanna had a deep love for life’s simple joys. She was an avid gardener and delighted in dancing the polka and the waltz. A talented home cook and baker, she was especially known for her strudel and her beloved, closely guarded recipe for “chicken ala Gio,” as well as her potato pancakes and polenta.
In later years, she enjoyed traveling, with memorable visits to London, Paris and her cherished northern Italy. She also found pleasure in reading Italian gossip magazines, watching Hallmark movies and cheering on the New York Yankees.
She is survived by her daughter, Rosanna Rossi, and son-in-law, Carl Aiello, of Newburgh; her son, Francesco Rossi, and daughter-in-law, Jennifer Rossi, of Marlboro; her granddaughter, Gabriella Rossi, of New York City; and numerous nieces and nephews in the United States and Italy.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Gelindo Fellin and Giacomo Fellin, and her sisters, Caterina Fellin, Maria Fellin and Anna Fellin.
The family extends special thanks to nurses Grace and Elizabeth of United Hospice, as well as caregiver Allie, for their compassion and devoted care during Giovanna’s final weeks.
Funeral services will be private, with burial to follow in Italy. Memorial contributions may be made to United Hospice at unitedhospiceinc.org.
