Grace Dorothy Mowat

Grace Dorothy Mowat of Montgomery, NY passed into the presence of the Lord on July 13, 2026.

Grace was born on June 29, 1928 in Jersey City, NJ to Paul and Augustina Balison, Greek immigrants from Turkey. Family recently celebrated with her for her 98th birthday.

Grace lived in Pearl River, NY for six decades and was a faithful member of Montvale Evangelical Free Church, and more recently, Goodwill Church. She graduated from Pratt Institute and initially worked as a seamstress in NYC. Upon moving to Rockland County, Grace worked in sales at Sears until her retirement.

She enjoyed traveling to Greece, Alaska and Bermuda. An avid animal lover, she had many cats and dogs over the years. Her love of gardening was evident with a porch full of beautiful blooms every summer. Grace kept active in the many events at the senior center and enjoyed exercising.

Grace was preceded in death by her younger brother, Robert Balison, and her older brother, Nicholas Balison. She is survived by her two sons, Paul, and his wife Laura of Oro Valley, AZ and James, and his wife Elizabeth of Montgomery, NY. Grandchildren include Linnea, Daniel and his wife Siobhan, James, Nicole and her husband Dennis, along with her great-grandson, Chase.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Goodwill Church on Thursday, July 23, 2026. Memorial Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:30pm, with services beginning at 2:30pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Goodwill Church, 2135 NY-208, Montgomery, NY 12549.
