Heather Conley, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and dedicated educator, passed away peacefully at the age of 79.
Born in Rhinebeck, NY, Heather was a vibrant, family-oriented woman who created a lasting legacy through her nurturing spirit, her love of art, and her passion for gardening. She was the devoted wife of Joseph J. Conley Sr., sharing a remarkable 56 years of marriage and a shared professional life.
Heather was a passionate advocate for early childhood education. After graduating from Mars Hill College with a BA in Art Education, she taught for nine years at Bogert Elementary School in Upper Saddle River, NJ. In 1981, she and her husband opened "Heather’s Child Place and Learning Center" at the American Legion Building on Rt 208, which they operated together for 37 years.
A true "social butterfly," Heather was deeply involved in her community and profession. She served as an officer in the New York Childcare Association and was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Montgomery, where she served as an Elder and Sunday School Superintendent. She was also a familiar face during General Montgomery Day.
In her personal life, Heather was an avid gardener who frequently hosted tours of her beautiful garden beds and water features, donating all proceeds to local schools and food pantries.
A memorial service to celebrate Heather’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 29th, 2026, at 11:00 AM at: First Presbyterian Church in Montgomery 137 Clinton Street, Montgomery, NY 12549
A repast will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the church in Heather’s memory.
Heather leaves behind her husband, Joseph J. Conley; her eldest son, Joseph J. Conley IV and his wife, Sarah; her son, Jonathan E. Conley and his wife, Rebecca; and her adored grandchildren, Liam, Luna, Annalise, and Vivian. She will be remembered as a creative and nurturing force who loved her family and community deeply.
