Howard Edgar Witt, of Walden, NY, passed away Friday, October 10, 2025 in Newburgh. He was 87.
The son of the late Alpha G. Witt II and Geraldine B. Hurdle Witt, he was born December 28, 1937 in Chicago, IL. He earned degrees at American University and Fairleigh-Dickinson University. He was a member of the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity.
Howard worked as a salesman for Lefebure Corporation and served in the United States Army. He is best remembered for his commitment to education: he was an instructor with Marist College's prison education program, a substitute teacher for the Wallkill Central School District, and a tour guide at Brotherhood Winery. He also served his community as a member of the Walden Parks committee.
Howard was the widower of Maria Elena Witt. They both loved animals, especially the basset hounds they rescued. He loved making jokes, gardening, wine, American-made cars, and the Mets.
Howard is survived by his daughter Anna Pineda of Wallkill, NY, son Howard Witt Jr. and his wife Patricia of Middletown; NY, grandchildren Emily (Michael) Diaz, Jarrett Pineda, Ashley (Anthony) Gioielli, David Witt; great-grandchildren Benjamin Diaz and Nora Diaz, sister-in-law Maria Christina Janesky, and several nieces & nephews.
Along with his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his brother Alpha Witt III and his wife Carole Emilie Witt, sister Annabelle Linneman and her husband Robert Linneman, sister Ester Boronstein and her husband Hyman, and brother-in-law Gordon Janesky.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 15, 2025, 2pm-4pm at Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank St., Walden, NY 12586. A service will follow at 4pm at the funeral home.
