John W. MacDowell Jr.

John Watson MacDowell Jr, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on May 16, 2024. He was 94 years old. He is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Audrey D'heedene MacDowell, his brother William D. MacDowell, his sister Anne M. Jaster, and his parents John Watson and Ruth Weld MacDowell.

He is survived by his children Roger and his wife Bobbi, Chuck and his wife Donna, Cindy and her husband Hal, and Betsy and her husband Chris, ten grandchildren: Cassi, Jessie, Tyler, Stacy, Meghan, Diane, Jared, Charlie, Morgan and Chase; and 7 great-grandchildren; his brothers Edward (Ned) and Theodore (Ted) MacDowell.

John graduated Scarsdale High School and went on to letter in a college-prep year at Cushing Academy. He then attended Oberlin College where he earned a bachelor's degree and met his beautiful wife, Audrey.  He and Audrey raised their children in Blauvelt, NY and later moved to Sanford, NC. Summers were enjoyed by all at their other home in Sag Harbor, NY.  He retired from a rewarding career as a Yacht Broker. He enjoyed playing golf and was active in the Rockland County Chorale Society and the Carolina Trace Get Happy Chorus.  John enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden and beautiful lawn as well as sharing many interesting stories with others.

John was a kind, patient, and loving father.  Family was most important to him.  He touched the lives of all who had the opportunity to know him.

John, Dad, Poppa, Super-Poppa you will be greatly missed.

A private memorial will be held by his family.
