It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Judith Joycelin Russell, born on October 20, 1938 in Clarendon, Jamaica, West Indies. She has been a resident of Mount Vernon, New York for the past 40 years.
She left us after a valiant fight with heart complications at Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital on the evening of May 4, 2020. She was in her 81st year.
Judith is survived in life by her children, Donna Marie Russell-Stewart, Noel Russell, Colin Russell and Claudia Russell-Garson; grandchildren, Whitney Stewart, Brandon Stewart, Woodrow Stewart II, Anthony Russell, Jillian Russell, Ryan Russell, Kiara Russell, Jodi-Ann Russell, Colin Russell Jr., Nathaniel Russell, David Garson, Peter Garson, and James Garson Jr. She is also survived by her sisters, Greta Muir, Berlett Smith, Edna Welch, Myrtle Smith, Patricia Smith and brother, Owen Smith. She is also survived by in-laws Vanessa Hadden-Russell, Rebecca Hadden, Philip Hadden, James Garson, Clifton Muir, and Aston Welch, as well as nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Finally, she is survived by dear friend Jerod Gallimore.
Judith was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to all whose lives she touched. She had a passion for life and concern for others, exemplified by her care of the elderly as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant in Bronxville, New York for the past 30 years. A devout woman, Judith was also a parishioner of Mount Vernon Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Mount Vernon, New York.
Due to the current pandemic, a virtual celebration of Judith’s life will be held Sunday, May 17, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Judith’s memory can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Cremation will be private.
