Karen Kundin-O'Shea

Karen Kundin-O'Shea of Walden, NY, passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2021, in Walden.  She was 63.

Karen was the daughter of Robert H. Kundin ESQ and Sheila Peck Kundin. She was born on June 4, 1957 in Verona, NJ. 

Karen grew up in New Windsor, NY and graduated from Newburgh Free Academy. She next attended SUNY Orange and SUNY Geneseo where she earned a degree in Nursing. She became a Registered Nurse and landed a job at St. Luke's Hospital in Newburgh, NY. There for over 20 years, she worked primarily in the Neonatal ICU.

Karen had been a long time resident of the Town of Newburgh.

In 1989, Karen along with her husband Richard O’Shea, had their second home built on Chapel Road in the Town of Newburgh. She had been a long time member of Temple Beth Jacob in Newburgh, NY and was an active member of the local Jewish community. Karen had her Bat-Mitzvah at TBJ as did both of her daughters. 

She was a keen gardener, had quite an artistic talent and adored her Standard Poodles. She loved spending time with her grandchildren Eoin and Cian Mawe of Walden. “Gra-Gra” was a huge influence on their early years and will be missed greatly by both. All who knew her would remember that she was quite fond of a good joke.

Karen is survived by her daughter Lyndsey Mawe & husband Ian of Walden, NY  and daughter Amanda O’Shea and her fiance Chris Murphy of Newburgh NY. Karen was predeceased by her sister Cynthia Worthington, ESQ.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 30, 2021 at 11:30am at the Orange County Arboretum, Thomas Bull Memorial Park, 211 Rte 416, Montgomery NY.
