Luther A. Powers of Maybrook, NY, Went home to be with the Lord Thursday, September 23, 2021, in Newburgh. He was 84.
The son of the late Melvin B. Powers and Bertha Dillard Powers, he was born February 27,
1937 in Manakin, VA.
Luke was a very hard worker sometimes working 2 & 3 jobs at a time, teaching his family a strong work ethic. After serving in the Marines from 1955-1958 he worked at Crowley’s Milk Co. as a Milk Man going door to door with glass milk bottles. He worked as an aircraft Mechanic for Stewart Field. He also worked and retired from West Point as a Building Maintenance Supervisor for 38 years at the same time he working for Harry Fortunis’s Cigarette and Candy Distribution Co. and ran ads in the local newspaper for odd jobs. He loved helping and meeting new people. Doing jobs for very low prices or no cost at all for the elderly. Loving the story behind the treasures he was given.
Luke had an amazing relationship with the Lord He was active in two churches before his illness, enjoying the fellowship of all he met. After retirement He adored his Puppy “Izzy”, He Loved traveling abroad with family and in
the states especially Myrtle Beach vacations.Luke’s favorite time or year was when 4 generations would come home for Thanksgiving and Christmas. He was famous for hosting along with his wife , an open house Christmas
breakfast for family, friends, and strangers, who then became friends, serving up to 75 people. He was Loved and respected by so many.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy M. Powers at home, daughter Cindy Spagnoli & Craig of Florida, son Daniel Powers & Dianne of Wallkill, daughter Linda Vandermark & Jeremy of Pine Bush, daughter Lisa Lopez & Bobby of Bloomingburg, Grandchildren: Michael (Tracy), Christopher (Sarah), Suzanne (Kyle), Daniel, Ian, Alyson,
Jared, Jacob, Jace, Victoria (Alex), Marilyn, Robbie, Ethan, Great Grandchildren Grace, Quinn, Leo, Josephine, Louise, Althea, Sadie, Bennett, Eli, Sister Myrtle Malcolm of Virginia, Sister Mamie Joyner of Virginia and many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents Melvin and Bertha, he was predeceased by his first wife Nora Josephine Coyne Powers, sister Rennie Turner, and brother Melvin Powers.
Visitation will be Monday, September 27, 2021, from 4pm-7pm at Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank St., Walden, NY 12586.
A funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Pastor Elisha Cooper will officiate and Pastor JonMarc will share memories.
