Mary Ellen (Doyle) VanDyke

Mary Ellen VanDyke,84, of Montgomery, NY, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Westchester Medical Center after a brief battle with cancer. She died peacefully surrounded by her family.

The daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Ellen (Banaghan) Doyle, she was born February 18, 1939 at home, on her family’s farm in Pine Bush, NY.

Mary was Deputy Treasurer for the Village of Montgomery for 15 years. She was very involved in the Montgomery community; coaching Little League, serving as a Scout Leader, and assisting in the planning for the annual Montgomery Day for 14 years. Mary also served on the Valley Central Scholarship Council and volunteered with Montgomery Library.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years Marlin VanDyke of Montgomery, son David (Ellen) Winchell of Saranac Lake, NY, daughters Linda Winchell of Asheville, NC, Terri(Scott) D’Amato of Oxford, CT, and Laura (Joel) Longinott of Wallkill, NY; in-laws Carl (Edna) VanDyke and step sister-in-law Faith Mitchell; grandchildren, Caylin (Danny Wikenheiser) Winchell, Alanna (Keith) Kogut, and Evan and Jessi Longinott; step granddaughters Leslie (Eric) Nash and Casandra D'Amato; and great step grandchildren Abby and Aidan Nash and Miles D’Amato.

Mary is also survived by brothers Charles (Rachel) Doyle of Winter Haven FL, Thomas (Brenda) Doyle of Middletown, NY, Joseph Doyle of Rhinebeck, NY, Ed Doyle of Hopewell Junction, NY; and sister in law Donna Doyle of Scotchtown, NY. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, step nieces,great nieces and nephews, and cousins who were all very special to her. She also loved all the others throughout the community who referred to her as Ma.

She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Jim Doyle, sister-in-laws Alice Doyle and Maryann Doyle; and step sister-in-law Gladys VanDyke.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 19, 2023, 4-7 pm, at Overhiser Funeral Home, 78 Union St., Montgomery, NY 12549.

A funeral service will take place Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 10:30 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Montgomery in a plot bordering her parents’ graves.
