Nancy Schempp Obituary

Nancy Ann Mostoller Schempp of Montgomery, NY peacefully passed away on December 20, 2020.

Daughter to William and Phyllis Mostoller, she was born on January 20, 1947 in Johnstown, PA.

Nancy was an incredibly kind and giving woman.  Faith, family, and friends were what mattered most to Nancy. She had a passion for gardening, animals, and loved doing all kinds of handwork. Nancy grew up on a farm in Bedford, PA.  It was there that her love of gardening and animals began. Quilting was her greatest joy in her later years. She made many pieces of beautiful work for family and friends.

Nancy had a strong faith in God and was always keenly aware that God is good always and that God loved her.  She was a living example of God’s love and she let it shine to all those who knew her.

Nothing was more important to Nancy than her family.  Nancy is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years Warren Schempp, daughters Elizabeth Hampton and Kristin Pacelli, son-in-laws Aaron Hampton and Gary Pacelli, grandchildren Chase Pacelli, Madison Pacelli and Austin Hampton.   She is also survived by her older sister Barbara Gates, in-laws Arthur and Nancy Schempp, 5 beloved nieces and nephews and 10 great nieces and nephews who all were a big part of her life and whom she loved dearly.

Lastly, but probably most dear to her heart, Nancy was a “Friend of Bill.”  This is a common phrase used to refer to the founder of Alcoholics Anonymous, Bill W.  She was proud to tell people that she was a sober recovering alcoholic.  Nancy recently celebrated 29 years of sobriety.  She was fervently active in Alcoholics Anonymous in the community and was a sponsor to countless individuals seeking help to gain and maintain their sobriety.

The Serenity Prayer could be found displayed throughout Nancy’s home as a favorite reminder to live these truths.

“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”
