With the softness of a petal and the strength of deep roots, Olive Burgess (Quick) lived a life full of love. On Monday, April 27, 2026, she passed peacefully leaving behind memories that bloom in the hearts of all who knew her.
She was born to Fannie and Hazzie Quick on the 15th of February 1927 in Wallkill, New York.
Olive (Ollie) was an accomplished teacher; she earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Stroudsburg State Teachers College in Elementary Education in 1950. Her first teaching assignment was in a one room schoolhouse in Pennsylvania. After relocating back to New York, she was a teacher at Taft Elementary in Washingtonville. Ollie married the love of her life, Cliff Burgess on December 26, 1965. Upon retiring from teaching, she worked with her husband Cliff. While in High School and college she was involved in many clubs and sports. Ollie had a special love for sports, especially for golf and bowling. Besides participating in many local tournaments, Ollie and Cliff traveled and played at many golf courses along the East coast. Ollie was also an author, she especially loved living in Wallkill and shared her memories having penned “Hometown Memories” .
Ollie is survived by her beloved husband, Clifford Burgess, stepson Edward Burgess, his wife Donna, granddaughter Jennifer Burgess, her sister, Jean Uszenski, niece Linda Mackey and nephew Joseph Pangia, great niece and nephews, Nathan and Andrew Mackey, Chantal and Robbie Stephens. Who will forever feel her love in the traditions she created and the memories she nurtured.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 7, 2026, 5pm-8pm at Wallkill Funeral Home, 12 Bonaventura Ave., Wallkill, NY 12589.
A funeral service will be held Friday, May 8, 2026, at 11am at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Bruynswick Rural Cemetery.
