Paul E. VanRiper, of Wallkill, NY, passed away at home peacefully surrounded by loving family Wednesday, October 30, 2024, in Wallkill, NY. He was 68.
The son of the late Edward C. VanRiper and Caroline G. DiChiaro VanRiper, and grandson of the late Theresa Grace “Nan” DiChiaro, he was born September 13, 1956, in Cornwall, NY.
Paul enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. at the age of 18 and served in the Vietnam war. He was honorably discharged and proud to have served his country.
Throughout his lifetime Paul owned and operated several small businesses, including a cafe, a deli, and his business through retirement, local Proline CATV, Inc., Wallkill, NY. With his robust personality and infectious laugh, Paul was a fixture in his community, known by many wherever he went in his big white truck. He loved to cook and was an incredible chef, making homemade pasta and meatballs on Sundays the way Nan taught him, carrying on her legacy. Paul was a lover of life and lived it, simply.
Paul is survived by his son Paul E. VanRiper, Jr., son Erik H. VanRiper, daughter Mandy Morrison & her husband Matthew, daughter Erin VanRiper-Walker, son Anthony VanRiper, step-daughter Shannon Varian & her husband Dave, step-son Tyler Conklin-Woodruff; grandchildren Courtney, Dion, Cory, Eien, Kyle, Riley, Emily, Amelia Carson, Ben, Kate, Nicholas, Madison, and Morgan; sister Theresa Sommer & Stephen, sister Bernadette VanRiper; nephews Vincent, Eddie, Victor
nieces Jennifer, Jessica; Uncle Vincent DiChiaro Jr and wife Donna, and cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, many friends and loved ones,, his two dogs Odie and Simon, and his flock of twelve ducks and four chickens.
Along with his parents and grandmother, he was predeceased by his step-son Kevin McLoughlin.
Cremation will take place privately.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 12pm-2pm at Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank St., Walden, NY 12586.
