Peter Delmonico Sr. Obituary

Indeed, September 25 ,2025 is a sad day for all who knew and loved Pete. The pain and sadness we all feel is hard to describe. We cannot begin to comprehend the extreme loss that Pete’s son and family Eve and Joe are experiencing now.

Pete’s passing has fallen heavily on the hearts of all who loved him. His family, friends and colleagues have abandoned themselves into an overwhelming state of grief, but I write this tribute to Pete to honor a great man and to offer my comfort the best I can to Pete’s son and Eve and Joe.

Pete was an extraordinary man is so many ways. Pete was an author, a talented artist, a prolific song, poem writer and brilliant mechanic. He graduated from Valley Central High School 1961.He was the President of his class in ninth grade. At graduation he received the MVP Award for Baseball as a starting pitcher.  He received the prestigious Valley Central High School Outstanding Athletic Alumni Award 2011 and was inducted into the Valley Central Athletic Hall of Fame for Basketball and Baseball. Pete had a very successful career with Dupont and Stauffer retired after many years. He worked as a mechanic in the Mechanical Engineering Department in Newburgh, New York. When he retired, he started a second career and worked at the Interstate Bag Company later named Pro Ampac and supervised 85 employees with expert leadership. Pete was a member of an International Society composed of worldwide leaders in their field. He loves fishing, hunting and playing golf. He was a devoted husband to Shirley Delmonico and loving father to Peter, Jr. Delmonico

He was esteemed and loved by all who knew him. The kindliness and tenderness of him heart was seen and felt by all who came within the charmed circle of his intimacy.

What is it we remember when we think of Pete? I think everyone who knows him well would agree with me on this. It was his strong faith, his athletic talents, warm heart, him desire to do nice things for others, him air of dignity, his joy of being around people and his generosity.

I have such fond memories of Pete. In high school he was one of the most handsome guys in the school, he had a bubbly, upbeat personality and was just beautiful inside and out. He had a magnetic personality, was popular and had many friends. He was an awesome athlete and I can still see him running down the basketball court whipping one of his famous hook shots in the net That’s how I remember Pete in High School.

He has left a void that no one can fill- laid forever at rest. Every time Pete sees the bright sun beaming down or a bright star in the sky, I’m sure he will think of Pete. He was his sunshine and his bright shining star. He did everything humanly possible to lighten his son’s workload so he could focus on his job. He absolutely adored his son Pete and did everything for Pete with love.

It’s all over, the last struggle is past, the strife, anxiety, the pain, the turmoil of life is over. Henceforth, his great life marked at every step will be remembered with fondness and love forever.

He will truly be missed by all him friends. He has left behind numerous memories that will never be forgotten. When someone you love becomes a memory they leave behind a treasure. Pete has left many wonderful treasured memories for him family and for all who knew and loved him.

This is our time to celebrate his life. So, this is the moment we should all be thankful that we were given a chance to have known a wonderful man named Pete. He meant something to each and every one of you. And this is the time to cherish those memories that each have of Pete.

Pete’s life was filled with joy, hope, enthusiasm, courage, and love. His journey was a great one full packed with fun and adventure and surrounded by a loving husband and son, and other family members and friends.

With Pete’s passing he lives on. He lives on in each of you with his warm, loving spirit.  The power of God has allowed Pete to resurrect his spirit within each of you. He has given you restoration and hope to move forward.

You need to make your lives purposeful and infuse Pete’s spirit in others. You need to tap into Pete’s pure gold and inoculate others with him warm, loving spirit to give strength to others in need, so they can lead an abundance of life as Pete did. In Pete’s legacy you must bring hope, joy and peace to others.

Eve and Joe there is a special spot in heaven for both of you. There is a saying that says “how we handle our tough times stays with us for a long time”. You have handled Pete’s tough time with grace, dignity, sacrifice, commitment, offering comfort, love, support, and entertainment to keep him spirits up.

And Pete Jr. you have to take comfort in knowing your recent visit lifted his spirits and filled him heart with joy. You provided him with laughter, joy, and fun. He loved you more than you will ever realize.

I’d like to share this poem. It reads like this:

Life is but a stopping place
A pause in what’s to be.
A resting place along the road,
To sweet eternity.
We all have different journeys,
Different paths along the way,
We all were meant to learn some things,
But never meant to stay.
Our destination is a place,
Far greater than we know.
For some the journey’s quicker,
For some the journey’s slow.
And when the journey finally ends,
We’ll claim a great reward,
And find an everlasting peace,
Together with the Lord.

I pray for comfort, peace, encouragement for Pete, Pete Jr. Eve and Joe to mend them and restore them so they can move on to where they need to be. I pray that God will carry you all thru this difficult time.

Dear Lord, Pete is at your side and in your hands now, please take good care of him. Please take him hand to greet his mom, and Shirley now in heaven. And, please help Pete’s son, Eve and Joe find the courage, strength, and self-confidence to cope with this extraordinary loss.
