Peter Michael Herries

Peter Michael Herries of Walden, NY, passed away Monday, January 16, 2023, in Walden.  He was 65.

The son of Alexander North Herries and Marilyn McAvoy Herries, he was born September 9,1957 in Long Island NY.

Peter was an avid and talented runner. He ran for the Valley Central High School track teams and was involved in the 1976 New York State Championship Team. He later attended Lafayette College, where he also ran track. He also graduated from New York Law School with a JD. His passion was for his work as an Architectural Hardware Consultant (AHC). He designed the doors, keys, and locks for many projects in the Hudson Valley including hospitals, schools, and emergency centers. A child of the Hudson Valley, Peter loved his house on Borden Road. He planted many of the trees on the property and often remarked that his children grew up alongside them. He and his beloved wife, Ellen, built their family in the Walden home. It was, in his own words, his “place in the world.”

He is survived by his wife Ellen A. Herries, daughter Allison Herries & Nick Theccanat, daughter  Emily Herries & Pat Coffey, son Christopher Herries & Sarah Swong, grandchild Gavin Coffey, brother John Herries & Patty Logan, sister Margaret Gillespie & husband Pat, sister Elizabeth Herries & husband Don Aibel, brother Edward Herries & wife Tara, numerous nieces and nephews.
