Roy Kellawan Obituary

Roy Kellawan of Queens, NY peacefully passed at Queens General Hospital on the early morning of July 25th 2026. He was 62 years old. Roy was born on a sunny day of October 27th 1963 in Georgetown, Guyana to the late James Kellawan and Maharoon (Ismay) Née Allie. Roy left Guyana as a young man and migrated to Trinidad and Tobago, where he was employed as a machinist at Neal and Massey for several years. In 2002 he migrated to the United States where he had a career as a security guard at JFK Airport.

Roy had a gentle demeanor and lived life modestly. His calm presence was infectious. He had a tendency to put everyone at ease. Many felt they knew him all their lives. He was the athlete of the family, and had a deep passion for the game of Cricket. He played semi-pro in Trinidad and Tobago for almost two decades, until a shoulder injury caused an early retirement. An avid reader, Roy could hold a conversation with anyone from all forms of education. He was notorious for his witty conversations coupled with a dry sense of humor. Never a stranger to idleness, Roy remained active playing and coaching non-league cricket at the various parks in Queens. When relaxing, he frequently watched televised cricket matches with his friends at the local pubs and attended many home matches at the Richmond Hill Liberty Cricket Club (RHLCC), his favorite place to be.

Roy is the youngest of eight siblings and he's survived by Jairam, Moreen, Ronald, Claude, Dana, and Ann.  He was preceded by his father James, mother Maharoon and his eldest sister Barbara.  Roy is the brother-in-law of Sundri, Herman, Doreen, Coraline and Bashier.  He is the uncle of Ryan, Rhonda, Ricardo, Renaldo, Raffaello, Renata (deceased), Randy, Sabrena, Shevron, Paul, Darin, Eesaa, Tricia, and Anthony.  Great uncle to Marcus, Brooklyn, Romello, Remi, Anthony, Connor, Eleana and Madison.  A great friend to most who knew him.
