Susan Parkyn Strauser, of Wallkill, NY, passed away Saturday January 8, 2022 in Wallkill. She was 79.
The daughter of the late Harold M. Parkyn and Helen Knapp Parkyn, she was born May 18, 1942 in Englewood, NJ.
Susan owned and operated the Vocal Arts Studio in Wallkill, where she also taught voice lessons.
Susan was a performing artist who appeared as a soloist in the metropolitan area in concert, oratorio and opera with ensembles of the New Jersey Symphony, Hudson Valley Philharmonic, Indiana University Philharmonic, West Islip Symphony Orchestra and the Lunch ‘n’ Listen Performing Arts Series. As a Who’s Who in America, she served as a Lecturer in Voice, Artist-in Residence, Voice Instructor and Artistic Director for area colleges and organizations including the State University of N.Y. and the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance.
She was a graduate of West Chester University (Pennsylvania) and Indiana University.
She is survived by her Husband George at home, Son Andrew Strauser & his wife Denise of Lords Valley, PA, Grandson Evan Strauser, Sister Deborah Hammar of Virginia and numerous extended family in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Winchester, Virginia areas.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Phyllis Parkyn, brother Harold Parkyn,and brother-in-law David Hammar.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 15, 2022, 10am-12pm at Wallkill Funeral Home, 12 Bonaventura Ave., Wallkill, NY 12589.
A funeral service will follow at 12pm at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Bruynswick Rural Cemetery.
