Welcome to the memorial page for

Melba Marleah Baty

December 27, 1928 ~ June 21, 2016 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Melba Marleah Baty, a lifelong resident of the Village of Montgomery, NY, entered into eternal rest on June 21, 2016 at Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown, NY with her loving family by her side. She was 87.

The daughter of the late Bingham Broas and Melba Sutton, Melba was born December 27, 1928 in Walden, NY. Melba was the widow of Allen Lee Baty Sr.

A family statement: Our Mom was an Angel here on Earth. Her true calling in life was to be a mom. She effortlessly loved and was devoted to her twelve children. She earned the nickname, "Mom Baty," as she was like a mom to half of the kids in the Village of Montgomery. She was a daughter, sister, wife, sister in-law, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and a dear friend to so many. Mom loved cooking for her family. She especially enjoyed baking and decorating her special birthday cakes. She was an avid reader, loved flowers and enjoyed her flower gardens. Every year our Mom looked forward to putting up and decorating her Christmas tree with all of her beautiful angel ornaments. Our Mom was a hard worker and worked her whole life. Mom grew up on the Quinn Farm on the Crowell Estate (Wallkill, NY) with her family. She milked cows, drove her Farmall tractor and did various chores that went along with running a farm. During WWII, she worked in a Factory making war parts and in her free time she wrote and sent close to one thousand letters of hope and comfort to the men of Walden fighting during the war. She worked at the Wallkill Hat Factory. Then, Mom traveled to Virginia with her dearest friend, Doris Pitt Ford, and there they worked together as telephone operators. Mom truly knew the meaning of hard work and instilled it in all of us. On May 14, 1950 she married our Dad, settled down and raised their family in Montgomery, NY working on the Baty’s Fruit & Vegetable Farm. Our Mom was truly proud of all of her children’s, grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s accomplishments in life. There wasn’t a day that went by where she didn’t think about us, worry about us or pray for us. Every morning she would read the daily horoscope section of the newspaper so that we would know how our day would be. We will miss her love, support, kindness, laughter and her farewell words to us each day we spoke to her, "I love you more," and "Night night." She truly was a wonderful Mother and Sister and will be greatly missed by all of us.

She is survived by her brothers, Gerald (Althea) Broas of Lake Katrine, NY, Donald (Arlene) Broas of Walden, NY, Sisters-In-laws, Beatrice Eriksen, Eleanor Gorss, Jeanette Baxter, her ten children, Allen (Cher) Baty, Montgomery, NY, Ret.
