Irene Patricia Fontaine of Walden, NY, a longtime resident of the area, entered into eternal rest Saturday, May 5, 2018 in her home surrounded by family. She was 82.
The daughter of the late Joseph Henri and Yvonne Trahan Coutu, she was born March 17, 1936 in Newport, Vermont.
After raising her four children, Irene received her degree in occupational therapy. She worked as a certified occupational therapy assistant for the Orange County Infirmary in Goshen. She was a member of Most Precious Blood Church, where she sang in the choir and served as a Eucharistic minister. Irene was also involved in the Coldenham Garden Club, Meals on Wheels, the Montgomery Library Book Club, Red Hatters, Belles of St. Mary's Church in Montgomery and the Montgomery Food Pantry. She loved gardening, painting and volunteering. She would also often visit the sick and homebound.
Irene was the widow of Adrien "Al" Fontaine.
Survivors include her son Peter Fontaine and wife Claudia of Brentwood, TN, son James Fontaine and wife Ruth of Corinth, VT, daughter Michelle Eckert and husband Jim of Clintondale, NY, daughter Renne Elliott and husband Douglas of Walden; 12 Grandchildren, Jacqueline, Diana, Kalei, Jaika, Alyssa, Adrie, Lucas, Jimmy, Lauren, Morgan, Ashton and Garrett; as well as one Great-Granddaughter, Danielle; and several nieces and nephews; brother Jean Coutu of Newport, VT.
Along with her husband and parents she was predeceased by her sister Therese and brother Joseph.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 10, 2018 from 5-8pm at Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank St. Walden, NY 12586.
A mass of Christian burial will be Friday, May 11, 2018, 11:30 A.M. at Most Precious Blood Church, 42 Walnut St., Walden, NY.
Burial will be in Wallkill Valley Cemetery in Walden, NY.
