Marie Teresa (Frohbose) Smedes

Marie Teresa (Frohbose) Smedes, 91, formerly of Montgomery, New York and Centennial, Colorado died peacefully at the home of her daughter, Mary in Surprise, Arizona on March 4, 2018.  Born in Brooklyn, New York on July 3, 1926 to Mary (Harrison) Frohbose and Ignatius S Frohbose, she was one of five siblings:  Deacon John Frohbose of Circleville, NY, Margaret Forman (John, deceased) of East Greenwich, Rhode Island, Dolores Townley (John-deceased) of Circleville, New York, and Ann Bollmann (John-deceased) of Poughkeepsie, New York.  She was pre-deceased by her husbands Richard Coffman and Robert Smedes, Sr.  She is survived by her children Mary Coffman Adams of Surprise, Arizona, Philip Coffman of Centennial, Colorado, Robert Smedes, Jr (Aide) of Scottsdale, Arizona, Timothy Smedes of Pagosa Springs, Colorado,  Linda Barton (Bruce) of Phoenix, Arizona and Debra Kennelly of Pennsylvania.  She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

In her younger years she was employed in communications in New York City for several years.  Following her marriages, she spent many years serving her community and supporting her children in their schools.  She was an active member of St Mary’s Church in Montgomery, where she taught CCD and acted as parish manager for many years.  She was also a member of the Montgomery Block Rosary group.  A strong faith in God and a life of giving to others helped her through multiple battles with cancer.  She was the bravest person we ever knew.  Our personal loss as a family is heaven’s gain as a beautiful soul has entered its midst. 
 

The family would like to thank individuals of Hospice of the Valley, Surprise, Arizona, especially Bernardine Huff, BSN. 

Visitation will be from 9-11 am on Friday March 9, 2018 at St. Paul's Church, 2800 Route 17K, Bullville, NY, followed by a mass at the church at 11 am..  
Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Middletown, NY. at the convenience of the family.
