Elizabeth VanDerMeulen

Elizabeth VanDerMeulen (née Stephens) of Walden, NY, passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2020 in Newburgh.  She was 88.

The daughter of Ernest Stephens and Florence Stephens, she was born September 22, 1932 and grew up in Mount Hope, NY.

Elizabeth had 5 grandchildren (Susan, Jeremy, Heidi, Matthew, Megan and Lauren) and 5 great-grandchildren (Luke, Liam, Paiton, Benjamin, Taylor). She grew up on her family’s dairy farm as one of 14 siblings. She married Walter VanDerMeulen in 1952, with whom she enjoyed 68 years of happy marriage. She was also married to the Air Force, with which Walter served for many years. She lived the life of a serviceman’s wife, raising her family in locations such as Maine, New Mexico and France. She was loved by many for her sharp wit, self-confidence and welcoming embrace.

Survivors include her husband Walter, daughter Sharon (late Larry Hunger), and sons Robert (Debra), Chris (Joan) and Michael (Clair), as well as sisters Mary Lou and Sandra and brothers Barry and John.

Services will take place at a later date.
