Philip Eignor Obituary

Philip W. Eignor of Beavercreek, OH, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2019, in Beavercreek. He was 88.

The son of the late John and Pearl Gorman Eignor, he was born December 28, 1930 in Wallkill, NY. Phil worked as an electrical engineer for Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH, after serving in the U.S. Marines.

He was the widower of Lorraine M. (Hamilton) Eignor.

He grew up in Wallkill and graduated from Wallkill High School. He loved baseball and the Yankees in particular throughout his life. He also loved old cars and saved several awaiting restoration at his parents’ home in Wallkill and later in his garage in Beavercreek. Some still await restoration.

He and his sister and brother-in-law, Hope and Harry Weaver, along with his wife, traveled to car shows in Carlisle, Pa., looking for old cars and car parts, just one of many interests he acquired through his life.

Phil converted his love of math and patterns to betting on horses and trying to unlock the pattern of random number generators in slot machines.

Phil enjoyed life and, most of all, deeply loved his family. His nephews and nieces remember his smiling face and for some younger ones, his penchant for tossing them in the air and then catching them safely every single time. His grandchildren remember his trips to King’s Island to entertain them, family visits to Old Orchard Beach, Maine, his patience for helping them putting puzzles together and his enjoyment as he allowed the kids to drive his old tractor around his half-acre in Beavercreek.

Survivors include his daughter, Nancy Smith and her husband, Thad, of Ohio;  grandchildren Philip W. Eignor III and wife Lizzie, Melanie Holloway and her husband Eric, Andrew Eignor, Danielle Balsley, Wayne Ritter Jr., Brittany Ritter, Adam Smith, Thad Smith III, Chaz Smith, Zack Smith; and great-grandchildren Fiona and Owen Holloway, Jay and Daniel Balsley and Philip W. Eignor; and several nieces and nephews.

Also surviving are his sisters, Hope Weaver and her husband Harry; Jeanne Gervasi and her late husband, Rich; and June Hecht, wife of John Hecht. He was also pre-deceased by a son. Philip W. Eignor Jr., and two sisters, Doris Derringer, wife of George Derringer Sr., and by Margaret Eignor.
