Welcome to the memorial page for

William G Dunn

April 19, 2014
William G Dunn, 76, a lifelong resident of Plattekill, passed away on Saturday, April 19, at the Highland Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Middletown, NY. He had been a resident there since his Nov. 16, 2013 motor vehicle accident.  Bill was born in 1938 to Arthur and Helen Dunn. Both have predeceased him.  Bill married Lenore Jacobowitz and together they raised their two sons, William Jr. and Brian, all of whom predeceased him.  Together Bill and Lenore were the owners of Dunn Siding.

Bill served in the Army Reserves as part of his many participations in the civic community.  He was a lifelong member of the Plattekill Fire Department, serving in many positions, as well as the Fireman's Association of the State of NY.  He and Lenore were both members of the rescue squad and they went on numerous calls together.
Bill was a member of the Boy Scouts since the 1960s and was still active until his death.  He was especially proud of his work with the Eagle Scout program.  Bill was also a Republican Party committeeman for many years.

Bill is survived by his grandson Christoper and daughter-in-law Nancy Dunn of Indiana, granddaughter Lori Shanley, brother Clarence (Skip), sister Elizabeth (Sis) von Husen, nephew Michael von Husen and a favorite cousin Chester Dunn. Bill is also survived by Lenore's siblings, Richard (Irene Wager) Jacobowitz, David Jacobowitz, Carole (Albert) Angelillo, Joan Reed, Sara (Ron) Kurz, as well as mmany nieces and nephews, great friends: John and Annette Laskowsky, Donna Vertullo and Stacey Lloyd.

Bill was a "people person" and enjoyed conversation with anyone he met.  He and Lenore loved to travel for both his siding business as well as fire department activities.  He loved hunting, attending the Ulster County Fair and Wallkill High School sports games.  His greatest joy came from partcipating in the fire department parades and bringing home all those first place trophies.

This of course leads us to his second family and home, the members of the Plattekill Fire Department.  From the chief down to the entire rank and file membership, it proves that the fire company is indeed a brotherhood consisting of the brave men and women who serve so selflessly.

There will be a fire service memorial for Bill on Saturday, May 3, 2014, from 1-3 P.M. at Wallkill Funeral Home, 12 Bona Ventura Ave, Wallkill, NY 12589.  Immediately following the service, Bill's cremains will take their final trip with the Plattekill Fire Department to his final resting place, the New Hurley Cemetery in Wallkill, where Lenore and Brian are waiting for him.  Following the interment a repast will be held at the Plattekill Fire Dept. station #1, 50 Old Fire House Rd., Plattekill.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Plattekill Fire Department, P.O. Box 75, Plattekill, NY 12568
